It should be a super busy time on the "farm". What has she been doing? We know what she hasn’t been doing. She hasn't been doing any post-summer clean-up around her shack on the hill. She hasn’t been spending time with all the old friends that got tired of her BS…there are a lot. She hasn’t been dating a new girl. And she hasn’t been writing any interesting quality essays. But really, it’s okay…she shouldn’t worry about it, because nobody really cares what she’s doing anyway. Rehome the animals and you can just carry on.

I just found out the loan I was counting on for months, the one that would cover the farms fences, livestock buy-ins, repairs to animals shelters and the house, feed, winter firewood and hay is not available. The farm didn’t earn enough last year to prove worthy of it. It was only a couple thousand dollars, but when you rarely have over 1k to your name that’s a golden ticket and a huge sigh of relief. Back to survival mode when I just thought I was coming up for air. I don’t know what is going to happen to me. This is devastating. This is like a black stain on the whole summer I was so looking foward too
So her summer of doing nothing was going to happen because she was taking out a loan?

I wanted to check in and share some unfortunate news about the farm to get it off my chest. There isn’t anything you should do, other than share advice or a kind word if you have it.
I do appreciate anyone taking the time to care. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your time, support, and advice over the years and perhaps some of you will have more experience with this and know what my options are.
I just found out the loan I was counting on for months, the one that would cover the farms fences, livestock buy-ins, repairs to animals shelters and the house, feed, winter firewood and hay is not available. The farm didn’t earn enough last year to be eligible. It was only a couple thousand dollars, but when you rarely have over 1k to your name that’s a golden ticket and a huge sigh of relief.
This was the day I was finally able to reapply. I was so excited I paid off the last $500 earlier this month because I was certain I would qualify like I did the last 5 small loans…
It’s just more manipulative marketing tactics to empathy from fools for free funds.

So like everyone above, I don't remember her mention of a loan, small or otherwise, that she has gotten to carry her through in the past.
What does she do with all her money? Since she mentions dollar amounts when she wants someone to "pony-up" cash, I'd be interested in seeing her budget. I wouldn't believe it whatever she put out there, but it'd be good for a laugh.
I also agree with the above comment about her anticipated relaxed summer. It would have been possible with the loan, no need to worry or over-extend herself.
“What does she do with all her money?” Jenna is a financial fuck-up, and frivolously spends whatever amount she gets. Look at how fast she blew the Birchthorn funds of $15,000+. The moron didn’t even leave enough money to properly print her book.

Rough day. Got turned down for the loan I had been counting on for months, planning for. It is a huge blow.
I wrote a post about it and then took it down, feeling like there’s nothing anyone can do that reads it but feel uncomfortable. Writing is like a pressure relief valve for me. That’s why I posted it.
I just need to write better, keep going, keep trying to get word out about the farm. I am so exhausted from survival mode for 5 years straight.

For people asking: the farm didn’t qualify because it didn’t earn enough last year. I put ½ my time into substack and less into farm goods, so sales that barely made it every month counted towards words and not ag. It was a risk thinking I could get more support writing than farming, and I am so happy to be rebuilding a readership, but it means old parachutes aren’t available.

Anonymous 11:36. Right. Her resentment of “poodles who have direct deposit bank accounts,” and “can afford to travel” has always been barely disguised envy. It’s like the old sage saying “Robbing Peter to pay Paul.” That’s what Wog is doing with her temporary loans. I’m glad that she didn’t get another one. DeleteThe problem seems to be that after all these years of “farming”, nothing of what she does (soap, pork/lamb shares, writing, logo design) seems to have value enough for anyone to be willing to pay for what she sells. The single constant in all her writing seems to be this entitlement to “live a life others don’t understand” without the sustained and committed work it takes to produce what others may consider buying with their own hard earned money. And because she feels so entitled, she shakes her fist at everyone else who works hard for a living so that they can pay their mortgage, have medical insurance, take vacations, get their cars fixed…and even have their clothes dry cleaned. She’s a case of arrested development - sad to see, but the situation is entirely of her own making.

Earlier this morning I became a paid subscriber to Cold Antler Farm. I may not be able to fix the world, but I can (and did) become a paid subscriber.
This small generosity, lightened my heart. It reminded me we all have to power to make people feel seen, supported and powerful. These are not little things.
Be generous with your smiles and your kindness, in any way you can.

She loves to crow about her life, but when she's in her later years she is going to find out first hand the consequences of her stupid decisions.
I think that Jenna will eventually lose her home, and become a victim of her own stupidity. She resents anyone who won’t give her free funds for nothing.
DeleteShe actually ‘retired’ when she left Orvis. Our lives are quite similar. Think about it. As a retiree I get up when I feel like it, I walk in nature daily, I sometimes make an impulse purchase, I like high end clothing, I attend concerts, I enjoy cake, I have a small vegetable garden, I have a TV in our bedroom with Netflix. The difference of course, is that we are debt free, have private and government pensions deposited monthly, have health and dental insurance and a vehicle that is less than 5 years old. In other words, I can afford my lifestyle because I am not a flake like Wog. Living hand to mouth as she does is something most people do once, learn their lesson and improve their situation (I speak from experience). To go through the same rigamarole year after year speaks to her severe disfunction and to broadcast her plight and allow herself to become a beggar is beyond demeaning. Curiously she seems to be proud of demeaning herself as she does. That’s not something to brag about and the fact that she can’t see that is a huge red flag. She has an education which gave her a marketable skill but she refuses to utilize it. She needs to pick a lane. If she wants to be a writer then get a job writing, or go back to being a graphic designer. Trying to be a little bit of everything is not effective. Jack of all trades, master of none is an expression for good reason. She needs to suck it up, put her head down and Get A Job. Countless people hate their boss but they get on with and cash that pay check.

Deletei think jenna's retirement, sadly, is going to depend on when her parents pass and if they leave her any inheritance. It's likely they've been funding her mortgage this entire time, it's something many parents feel they need to do in order to keep their mentally unstable adult child out of jail and off the streets. If you pay for their housing, at least they're physically safe and their "rock bottom" has a floor so they can only sink so low.

If it were possible for Jenna to crash and burn it would have happened 10 years ago. Any of us who have worked for a living understand you can't keep paying rent let alone keep a property while in constant arrears. Thousands of people have opted to live in their vehicles for a year or more to try and build enough of a savings account to afford a downpayment on any small strata property somewhere.
Given Jenna had been evicted from at least one property, and possibly more than that if my memory serves, her parents would know she's just going to continue this cycle in her life.
Is her property even in her name or was it refinanced by her mother at some point?
If her parents are smart, and I think they are financially competent, they'd have that property and her inheritance as a part of a trust to limit Jenna's ability to mess up her own life as they have done. She'll switch to crying about being an ol' lady with no pension and run the same scam with different words until the day she dies.
